Capabilities for hydropower developments

Example of a small intake structure

MNV Hydro has the experience and capabilities for the design and construction of hydropower schemes including environmental monitoring, River gauging, Site surveys, Construction management and operation.

We have worked on a large number of schemes from the large scale ones (>1MW) in the Scottish highlands constructed in the 1950s and 1960s to networks of small schemes (250 - 1000KW) on farms and estates through to the very small individual schemes (<250KW).

In the pre-planning phase MNV will be the project manager, representing the client during the numerous consultations, Surveys, Reports and negotiations.  We will liaise with the planning authority and other statutory consultees and coordinate the required environmental surveys, Monitoring, Engineering design and grid connection applications.

An example of a large intake structure

We maintain close links with the planning authority and SEPA (Scottish Environmental Protection Agency) or EA (Environment Agency)  so that when the planning and CAR (Controlled Activity Regulations) licence applications are submitted they include all of the necessary information analysis and details.

Once the scheme has been consented we become the project manager, Representing the client during construction to ensure the work is carried out as planned with minimal impact and with the ground fully restored once the work is completed.  After construction we can operate the scheme for the client ensuring it works efficiently, Is correctly maintained and generates the expected revenue.
